The Henzey Collection
Furniture design
The Henzey Collection is inspired by classic Windsor furniture. Characterized by delicately turned spindle backs and sculpted wooden bodies, Windsor furniture is airy yet sturdy, and inspires notions of quality craftsmanship and heritage Americana.
Design proposal
This furniture collection is proposed to extend the modern spindle offerings that fit into traditional furniture market. These items are designed to be made in mass production.
This sample collection is designed to appeal to a busy, older millennial user; someone who likes to make their home feel cool and modern by mixing vintage inspired furniture with contemporary and traditional heritage pieces. The final feel is a cool eclectic mix that still feels fresh and new, while remaining traditional in style. Pieces should be durable and stand up to heavy day to day use.
Design process
01
Mood board
A landscape of how traditional Windsor furniture is situated in modern environments and the overall aspirational aesthetics associated with spindle furniture.
02
Sketching
Quick hand and digital sketches help to capture ideas and details quickly in early concepting
03
Design Story
Thematic design details are carried through each piece in the collection to create cohesion.
The details lend enough freedom for each piece to still maintain a unique personality, while easily extending to additional pieces if the collection were to expand to a wider range of products in the future.
04
3d Modeling
From initial sketches the forms translate into CAD models: elements are further resolved, details are refined, assembly and engineering are lightly addressed.
04
Color, Material Finish
CMF considerations are made based on what will look best in the customer’s spaces, finish considers product use cases and durability.
